With a name like Frantic Meerkat how could they go wrong. For the creature loving Monster, Frantic Meerkat offers cute art and post cards with a creature theme. Using original art and reused vintage images Frantic Meerkat caters to the quirky.
Magnet Pack-o-Rama from Frantic Meerkat will bring humor to any refrigerator door. A retro image of a prancing women holding a plate of waffles in one hand and bottle of wine in another, hedonism at its best. Although I think a mimosa or two goes better with waffles it is hard to argue that “lets get drunk and eat waffles” is not a very good idea.
Art and illustrations with a fondness for Monsters and other misunderstood creatures Nora Aoyagi is a Hip Monster’s favorite. Joined twins, fearsome wolfs and creatures of various sorts jump out of her art with elegant lines. Her black and white works are especially bold.
The Sisters is a great example of Nora Aoyagi’s work. Two conjoined twins stare out at you, obviously tired of their other half. Strongly influenced by American folk-art traditions, her work, except for its twisted sense of humor, is reminiscent of the art you saw hanging in your grandmother’s house as a child.
Critter Shop illustrations are a Hip Monster’s favorite. Bright, cheerful and ever-clever, his works will give you years of pleasure.
The Letter C Print immortalizes the struggle of a crocodile trying to make a meal of two uncooperative critters. The piece has well-thought-out details with adorable stylized forms for the creatures. Like most of Jason Dryg’s work, the backgrounds hark to 1950’s geometric patterns. The work brings back memories of the glory days of cartooning when a single cell was a work of art. Great for a cartoon lover or a children’s room.

Red Fish Circle has art that can be best described as friendly. With cheerful creatures living in a imaginative and stylized world they are a joy to explore. Amy Schimler’s style is her own but draws from Eric Carles’ works whose Hungry Caterpillar is one of HipMonster’s all time favorite children’s book.
Crayfish makes crustaceans seem playful and adorable. Pinchers held high the crayfish have attitude and would be perfect to brighten up a a kitchen.

For a strange and creative view check out Amos Goldbaum’s art. The imagery takes the form of detailed outlines of people and machinery. The carefully drawn lines often seem to blend together to former a higher order work with the art.
Muni is the fickle and unreliable god of transportation in San Francisco. Amos Goldbaum’s Muni t-shirt is the perfect way to express San Franciscans’ shared misery. At first glance it seems like a detailed and precise the outline of a Muni street car, yet it is more than just an outline, it brings the street car to life.

Photography, paintings and more, Sita Rupe’s art is playful and cute sure to brighten any Monster’s home. Most of the paintings are mono-colored stencils over bold, retro designs. The work has a campy feel the harks to the stencils graffiti that cover much of the San Francisco Mission and Hayes Valley Districts as well as most major urban areas.
Although Sita Rupe does not sell her art on her site you can look through a gallery of her work here. Our favorite is shown right. An image of a skating girl barely able to keep upright against a 50’ish background it is somehow both sentimental and edgy.
